The biological core of your aquarium cannot be improvised — it is built over time and must be protected with care. The NEWA original Biological Filter for the Cobra Internal Filter is manufactured in high-density sponge with a microporous structure optimised for the maximum available bacterial colonisation surface area: the nitrifying bacteria that colonise it continuously convert toxic ammonia into nitrites and then into nitrates, completing the nitrogen cycle that maintains the chemical and biological equilibrium of every aquarium. Compared to generic third-party biological sponges — frequently produced in closed-cell or irregular grain foam, with a lower real bacterial surface area than declared — the NEWA Biological Filter is specifically formulated to guarantee an interconnected open-cell structure, ideal for the stable establishment and proliferation of beneficial bacterial colonies. Its shape is precision-engineered for the NEWA Cobra biological chamber: no unfiltered water bypass, total contact between water and active bacterial mass. Washable and reusable — never replace the Biological Filter simultaneously with the Mechanical Prefilter to preserve bacterial maturity. Replacement recommended every 6–12 months.
